KELVYN BELL’S “CUBED ROOT CURE” EP IS NOW AVAILABLE EVERYWHERE!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THIRSTY RECORDS ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF KELVYN BELL’S “CUBED ROOT CURE

JANUARY 2, 2018 (NEW YORK, NY) – Thirsty Records is proud to announce the release of KELVYN BELL’S, “CUBED ROOT CURE” EP.

Master guitarist/composer Kelvyn Bell follows up on his 2015 solo release, “St. Louis Blu – Kelvyn Bell Plays Acoustic Guitar” with this return to audacity and electricity, “Cubed Root Cure”. Rhythmelodic talking jazz guitar, greasy rural funk, world music, psychedelia, and futuristic odd meter soundscapes mixed together in a liquid solution.

“Cubed Root Cure” is a collection of six original compositions recorded at Pappaw’s Porkchop Palace (Brooklyn, NY). All instruments were played by Kelvyn Bell (Guitar, Acoustic Guitar, Bass), Sasha Forte (Organ, Synthesizer), and co-producer Lowball Jack (Bass, Guitar, Percussion). Kelvyn states, “This was about getting outside the comfort zone and straight into the experimental. I went for it with all the wildest stuff I could imagine.”

The opener, “Crocodile Smile”, is a straight up scorcher including a wicked break. “Cubed Root Cure”, the title track, is a slinky envelope filter masterpiece that counts out variables of time in nine, six and three. “I Say You Say” is an intense back and forth conversation over a rolling, swampy groove in seven. The loose, slightly dissonant “Spheric Monk” is a tribute to the idiosyncratic beauty of Thelonius Sphere Monk. The vibe for this tune arrived one night on the bandstand. Kelvyn jammed around on it all night long, and then recorded it the next day after no sleep. “Undulation” evokes the romance of old New York’s streets at dawn as distant muted horns hook up with the talking guitar down on the corner. The closer, “Desert Continuum”, feels at once old and new as ancient acoustic drone meets futuristic world electronica.

NEW EGO ALIEN EP REVIEWED BY JAY REGAN OF ROCK BANDOM RADIO

Music Review: Ego Alien new eponymous EP.

One of the nice things about doing a weekly radio show is that I get the opportunity to hear new music before it’s released. Back in February, while seeing EGO ALIEN perform at Dobbs, Ted gave me a copy of EGO ALIEN’s newest EP. (BTW, EGO ALIEN’s live show is something to see!)

Ted is Ted Bunch, guitarist, vocalist and writer for EGO ALIEN. The EP in question is their new release simply called EGO ALIEN. The EP includes 4 songs: “Lines”, “Little Miss Panic Button”, “Green Means Go”, and “Big Bluey Dawn”. I had high hopes for the EP as I had already been a fan of EGO ALIEN’s music since the release of their debut EP “CRAWL ON THE EDGE”. They have also been a staple on my Philly AIMS Radio Show. (Sunday’s, 8 PM to 10 PM on http://www.rockbandomradio.com)

EgoAlien_eponymous_cover EP Cover

EGO ALIEN is a power trio consisting of Ted on guitar and vocals, Chris Kusmanick on bass, and for now, a Drummer by committee. (Hopefully the drummer spot will be filled permanently soon). As fate would have it, Ted is also an impressive drummer and he is the one playing on the EP, unfortunately his clone is not available for live performance.

The music, to me, is representative of the 90’s sound with an updated twist. The EP is full of catchy hooks, power chord drive and booming bass and drums. Standouts for me are “Lines”, with its prominent slide guitar and “Green Means Go”, which after one listen will be stuck in your head for hours. The remaining tracks are just as good and fit well together as an EP, seamlessly grabbing the listener and keeping them enthralled. After one listen I let it run through again as I wanted to hear more. Hopefully the next release will have a few more tracks.

Along with making good music, EGO ALIEN front man Ted Bunch is a great supporter of the Philly Area local music scene, you will often see him at other bands shows, right up front, cheering loud. To top it off Ted is a great guy, we need more people like Ted in the Philly scene.

EGO ALIEN has a number of shows coming up to support the new EP and you can get more information about the band and get their music at their sites below. I will be playing the entire EP on my Sunday, March 22nd, 2015 Philly AIMS Radio Show (starting at 8PM EST on http://www.rockbandomradio.com) to promote EGO ALIEN’s March 24th show at Shady Katie’s in Somerdale, NJ so browse on in.

NEW EGO ALIEN EP REVIEWED BY ROCKER’S DIVE RADIO

Reviewed by Jess Uribe of www.rockersdive.com – “We rock this planet together.”

I was recently treated to a preview of the exciting new self-titled EP from EGO ALIEN (Ted Bunch on vox/guitar, Chris Kusmanick on Bass and The Drummer who remains anonymous), and what a treat it was.

Packed with high energy music and meaningful lyrics, I started from the beginning to experience the EP in its entirety, listened to “Lines”, and loved the track, a tribute to the exclusion we all feel at times and overcoming it.

Next up was “Little Miss Panic Button” – a powerful, rockin’ tune featuring Ted’s masterfully grooving guitar, Chris’ pounding bass, and a hard edged melodic punk feel. It rocks for sure.

“Green Means Go” opens with a tribal drum beat that sets the tone for this track. There’s also a great hook on this one with the same raw rock edge that we have come to expect from EGO ALIEN.

Switching it up on the final track to my delight as a blues enthusiast is “Big Bluey Dawn”. It’s a change of pace that to me was a great final cut on this EP. It’s a rocker to be sure but features a great blues vibe that’s smoother, and shows the diversity of EGO ALIEN‘s talents.

A big thumbs up from me on this EP. If you love hard edged rock that screams quality, check this one out.
